Pedals are stuck...

The flat pedals on my bike are stuck - can't get them off. Whilst they are good pedals and at the moment, I have no real need to remove them - the ability to remove the pedals is something I would like to retain.
I'd probably have them off if they were normal pedals, but they are only removable with an allen key  (rather than a spanner)

Rather than drilling for the little oil left in the pedals, is there a less destructive way to get them off.
Also what would you recomend to stop the damn things from seizing up again.

Thanks.

Not being funny, but some anti-seize. :) But a little bit of grease will stop it and there's always some knocking around somewhere....

Yeah some bearing grease it is - got loads of it.

does anyone know where you can get those washers that go between the pedal and the crank? - Even the lbs didn't have them!

the washers are necessary if you've got spanner flats that run right to the thread. The flats can chew up the cranks unless they have a built in washer.

I didn't realisise you could buy em.

I know exactly what you mean, my DMR's took chunks out of my old LX cranks.

I ended up buying some washers and splitting them in order to get them to fit in the groove between the spanner flats and the thread.

Why the hell don't they make them with a built in washer or design them in the same way Shimano has, this would prevent the corners of the spanner flats ripping into the crankarms?

Wellgo MG1's same problem , DMR V8's V12's etc etc etc. They're are all the same. The only conclusion that I can come to is that this type of pedal is not designed for alloy crankarms and that they're designed for steel crankarms.

I've often seen these type of peddles (in particular MG1's,DMR's ) getting good reviews and never seen any mention of the fact that this design of pedal can and will damage alloy arms.

Fair comment, but I do more damage on rocks than the rare times I take my pedals off..
