After many years of hardly using my bike, in the last 6 months I have really got into it again, to the extent I have done 70 miles on each the last two Sundays on my road bike, and have entered for an 81 mile event in May
It occurred to me when I was out last Sunday that i only have insurance to cover theft of my bike at home. What if i was in an accident out on the road, and i was injured and the bike wrecked ???
Can anyone recommend a good policy that covers the main things that a leisure road tourer like myself needs ???
Also, what would you do if you had a serious breakdown miles from home ??? Are any of the breakdown/get you home type cover for cyclists available in conjuction with insurance cover - if so, is it something worth having ???
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Regards

I had specialist insurance a couple of years back, mostly to cover the bike for theft but it also had accidental damage cover, 3rd party liability, race cover and roadside rescue. Worked out about 10% value of the bike (per annum). In the end though I didn't renew as to me the chances of having to use the 'extras' weren't worth the cost of the policy (that and the fact the theft cover had so many conditions to it I wasn't convinced they'd pay out).
I did search around after to see if I could get roadside rescue cover on its own but never found anywhere so I just carry money and taxi numbers on my phone (no clue if a taxi would actually go out in the middle of nowhere though...).
Ooo just checked the place I had the insurance with ( http://www.cycleguard.co.uk/ ) and it looks like they do the roadside rescue on it's own now so I'll be signing up for that.0
