Hi there everyone, I was just wondering if anybody could help me with a little problem i've been thinking about. Me and my friend have been arguing about how long it usually takes to locate a small puncture in your inner tubing before patching it up. I'm saying its usually about 5-10 minutes. Can anyone second me?
PS. sorry if i've made any gramatical or spelling mistakes-please do not be offended, im new in this country and so my english isnt too snappy

You can do it in seconds if there's a puddle nearby (one of the great things about the British summer...). Otherwise its going to depend on how big the hole is - a really big one and you can't miss the air rushing out; a really tiny nick and it can be a right pain to find. I had a little snakebite one on my rear tyre last summer and it took ages to locate.

I had a punture yesterday and it must of took me at least 5mins to find it - it was hard to locate as it was tiny and there was nothing obvious in the tyre inside or out. Whats more after i located it there was still nothing in the tyre (no holes or anything) so im am still totally lost as to what caused it.

Do you think some sort of device that allows you to locate a puncture, no matter how small, in seconds, woud be useful?

Had one of these on Wednesday, located on what would be an inside section. What can cause something like that could be either something slightly sharp on the wheel rim, the rim tape shifting enough to expose a spoke/spoke hole, perhaps damage caused by a grain of something or other getting inside of the tyre and then scoring the tube til it tears at somepoint, or more likely a pinch flat caused by the tyre hitting a sharp edge, e.g. like a pothole, at speed, which is I think mine was.

Never been a problem really - take a spare tube - bung that in, and then find the puncture at your leisure later, maybe whilst in the bath.

Yep just carefully check the inside of tyre for obvious sharps fit the spare tube and worry about the puncture when you get home or to work or as cougie says take it into the bath with you and em um do what you gotta do.
