hi
i ordered a bianchi camaleonte alfine 2008 hybrid last week from winstanleys bikes as my bianchi camaleonte was nicked last week and they had it at a nicely discounted £ 459 which was ideal as i can barely afford the 575 retail price. I was told that the bike would be delivered to them today (the bike is out of stock on their website but they said they can get them from the suppliers, the importer for bianchi confirmed this) however i have now recieved an email saying it will be good friday before they get it!! i have heard bad reports about these and i am considering cancelling the order, howver i really wanted the camaleonte again as i really loved the alfine hub gear.
does anyone know some other hybrids at a max price of 500 where i can get alfine hub gears equipped? dont really want the nexus hubs. Please help, i might just give winstanleys another chance but i dont know whether they will deliver on their promises. One other thing that worrys me slightly is cycleworks europe who are the UK bianchi importer said it sold for 575 when i rung so how can winstanleys sell it for 459?

Bought one last week, arrived two days after card payment by phone. Needed mini bleed of hydraulic brakes; stem and bars tightened; saddle and post installing; pedals installing.

The 20" frame fits me fine with 32" inseam and 5'10" height. Swapped the tyres straight off for 1.75" Marathon Pluses. Very happy so far.

If you fancy building up your own custom, you might want to take a peek at this group offer of 189 Euros...

I ordered an 08 SCR from them a few weeks ago and was then told they couldn't lay their hands on one. It was still listed on their wesite three weeks later. Unimpressed

One week's delay is not something to get your knickers in a twist over!!

Seems to be a common thing. Wiggle did the same to me with the Tifosi, but it was a delay of 3 weeks when I'd already waited 2.

I'm with Blondie on this one, just wait an extra week, or ask them to throw something in to make up for the delay.

Welcome to JIT supply. Works if your suppliers are large-scale. Doesn't really work in the bike industry but the alternative is to source items that you probably won't sell (with probably no sale or return option in the contract), with money you don't have and (currently) can't borrow...

    Patience, patience.

  • I found Winstanleys slow to supply the bike I ordered but very good with aftersales service when a couple of things went wrong.

There are a number of threads like this on the MTB forums. It seems a very common 'problem' with the abouve mentioned Winstanleys. Good luck

I nearly ordered from Winstanleys, but didn't in the end because I noticed their site was using HTTP on the screen where I'd have to enter my name, address, phone etc.

I didn't like the idea of that, so I didn't use them in the end. Not sure if it's secured on the card payment screens, I assume so but I thought not being encrypted on that screen was bad enough.
