Hi all,

I have been reading "what bike" threads with interest over the last week or so, and have finally got around to writing my own.

I am looking to buy my first road bike, but being on the heavy side have no idea of what bikes would be suitable (I dont want to break it).

I cycle mostly with the family at the moment, but want to commute to work 2 or 3 times a week (25 mile round trip), and do more road cycling over longer distance for fitness & to lose weight (maybe joining a club, and doing some friendly competitions).

My company has agreed to to the cycle to work scheme (Cycle Scheme), so I have about £1000 to spend (a little extra too if the bike shop allows).

Can anyone offer any advice on which bikes may be suitable? What do other "heavier" riders ride?

Frame material must be an important decision? I see lots of people asking about carbon, but is this worth considering if your a heavy rider?

I see that even alluminum frames have carbon forks and sometimes carbon seat & chain stays, would they be strong enough.

As I am new tho the road riding scene any help is much appreciated.

I had considered a Boardman bike when I started looking, but now my company is doing Cycle Scheme I cant get a bike from Halfords.

I have also looked at Bianchi, Cannondale & Condor.

Cheers

Richard
