I have to admit I do like the programme, especially as now they are filming down here in Devon and I have come across many people I know...including a few of the bad guys!

Anyway last night they showed some helmet cam footage which while it was excellent that they showed a cyclist to be in the right and the motorist was in the wrong, I thought was a little bit tame compared with what even some of us here have filmed and gone through.

So I reckon we have a bit of a forum in this show, so there may be an opportunity to send in some of our footage to the production company of some of the serious stuff we have to go through every day on our roads. You never know, getting this kind of stuff publisised on a national media scale might make people think.

I really must invest in a cam next month, with some of the near misses I have had and that bloody dog the other day I would at least have something on my side.

I saw that as well, I have a headcam, but don't wear it as often as I'd like (in fact rarely).

The systems can be heavy, recorder, battery pack, camera ,cables and then they have to be placed in a rucksack.

Keeping all the batteries charged can also be a hassle.

The self contained (one unit) can be poor quality, hopefully a quality self contained unit won't be far off.

I'll have to get my headcam sorted again, they are very useful .

Was looking in the paper last week and there was a mention of Vee Cam so I made a note to look it up when I got back from Dawlish, after visiting several different sites I found one with the price
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Their official site doesn't even give a price, instead they ask you to phone them, always a sign theres a problem

    I've not seen a price yet , go-on what is it, £700 ..... £1000 ? :)

Did find a price on a site that I can't find now but it was just under 1K

  • I've had an idea for sometime now to adapt a mobile phone, perhaps mounting to the handlebars, specifically for the purpose of recording rides. The main issue I think is weatherproofing the mobile. Any bright ideas out there?.

    The main issue maybe vibrations.

I dont think its as useful to have a camera on your bars - your bike isnt always pointing in the right way for filming action, there will be more vibration, and you are more likely to forget and leave the camera on the bike.

You can get specific action cameras, but I reckon some clever person could strap one of these to a helmet or maybe even rucksack strap ?

I have a 4Kam video camera on my handlebars and the playback quality is really good, no vibration at all. I can play the footage back on the PC but still haven't worked out how to edit it so I can download it on the net. If you really need to you can just take the camera of the mount and point it. Of course I could attach it elsewhere but I find the handlebars work well.

I mount my camera on my handlebars ( http://www.youtube.com/user/EMDcam ) I prefer this to the it being mounted on the helmet as I don't like the POV changing all the time when people are looking over shoulders etc. The only downside is that you can miss some footage because you can't point it at things (idiots in cars) I don't have too many problems with vibrations apart from some of the really bad road surfaces.
