Tour of Flanders Odds
If anyone has a stong feeling over the winner of Flanders then it might be worth having a look at Ladbrokes website, they have van Avermaet at 14-1 and Boasson Hagen at a staggering 40-1 which must be worth a pound as they're paying out 1/4 odds for a podium spot. Getting excited already.

Paddypower have Martin Maaskant at 50/1 for Paris-Roubaix too."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Is he not on his way back from an injury though?0

A bad cut as of 10 days ago, so nothing too serious. The team aren't letting on any concern at any rate."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

That and he was 6th in the first stage of De Panne."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Fair enough, obviously not too much of a problem. Lets hopehe rides like last year.0

I think the odds show that you'd be a fool to bet against Boonen or any quick-step rider for de ronde...
It's a bit of shame really. Would like to have seen both Ballan and Cancellara give Boonen a good run for his money.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -

What the odds show you is that cycling is a bit different than many other sports and bookies are still not very good at it, especially one day races...0 -
I've got Van Impe at 66-1 which is a bargain given form and team.
I have no doubt a Quick Step rider will win, but I had a cheeky pound on Willems at about 22 I think0 -

Well who's likely to be able to beat him? Pozzato can't handle so many Hellingen and everybody else can't match Boonen over 260km, Devolder aside, and he's not in that top form he was in last year. Boonen's the only rider at top form at the moment who has proven himself over the toughest 260km in bicycle racing.
I think the bookies are probably better informed that we are.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
I can see why Boonen is favourite, but a lot can happen.
I've had a couple of bets on betfair:
Gilbert at 25/1
Langeveld at 50/10 -

Pozzato? Hoste? Flecha? It's a bike race. They're unpredictable. That's why we love them.
Boonen is the favourite, but that doesn't mean no-one can beat him. He hasn't exactly been in blistering form either this year - and I know the Ronde is a different beast altogether from all the build-up races - but I don't think Boonen is anywhere near as strong as he was in 05/06 when he was at his peak.
Looking at Unibet, I think there is value in Hoste (20/1) and Leukemans (80/1). Hoste has finished 2nd 3 times FFS, he knows what this race is about and how to be there at the finish. Leukemans is a good rider on a rubbish team - but that's better than being a domestique on a great team. He likes cobbles, has finished 4th in Paris-Roubaix 2 years ago... if the weather is good and the race is not too hard, I think he has a shot at being somewhere near the front at the finish.0 -

Am I allowed to gloat?... 8)Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
gloating people are happy people, and I like happy people, so please gloat away, but wouldn't it be more honest to admit that Boonen did not win, any money put on Boonen was simply money lost, and the suggestion that only Boonen could win and only Boonen had to be given a 'good run for his money' was a bit premature?teagar wrote:FJS wrote:teagar wrote:I think the odds show that you'd be a fool to bet against Boonen or any quick-step rider for de ronde...

True in part.
Boonen didn't win and Stijn was in pretty stunning form...
But I think cycling is less of a lottery that afx made out.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
I don't think I said cycling is a lottery... I said it's unpredictable and that Boonen was beatable. Clearly a strong team has a better chance than a weak team, but it isn't always that simple.
Speaking of unnecessary gloating, I was oddly pleased by Bjorn Leukemans getting 8th place. I had two bets... one on Boonen at 3/1 and one on Leukemans at 150/1... both lost, but Boonen got 20th and Leukemans got 8th. It's sad, but that made me quite happy0 -
Martin Maskaant's Roubaix odds - has come in from 50/1 pre Flanders to 16/1 now - still pretty good odds each way if you consider he was 4th last year.\'You Come At the King,You Best Not Miss\'0

Still won't win though .
I am prepared to eat humble pie if he does though. But it won't happen.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0
