Wrist pain

I had a bit of an off about a month ago and got a bit banged up. Nothing serious, knee swelled up and right thumb swelled up a bit but went down after a couple of days. Didn't bend/overextend the wrist though. No bruising or discolouration.
The problem is that since then, whenever I go out on the bike, the right wrist is very sore for a few days after, then fine again. Went for an extra long ride (for me) last Sunday of about 4 hours and it was hideously sore the following day and wouldn't take any weight. Even now, three days later, it's still very tender. The pain, when I have it, is in my forearm just above the wrist on the side opposite the thumb. It's only affected by lateral loads, can bench 90kg in the gym without any pain in it.
I won't make any conjecture as to what is wrong as I'd rather peoples ideas and experiences on here without biasing them in any way. I'm kind of wary of it as I tore ligaments and tendons in that wrist on the thumb side last Summer. Spent four weeks in a cast then so I don't know what it would have felt like as it was healed when the cast came off. And, much as I should probably go to the doctor, I'm living on 30euro a week until the Summer (damn student loans) so that's a last resort.
So, does anybody on here have any ideas as to what it could be? Any experiences of the same/similar things?

Could well be a soft tissue / /ligament type injury but could also be an avulsion fracture (where a little bit of the bone gets pulled of by a tendon or ligament) by the sounds of it. Wrists are very complicated (15 bones meet in your wrist) so they can be tricky to diagnose (even if you're experienced)and can take ages to fix. It probably is best to get an expert to take a look at it.
p,s. where are you based, do they not have some sort of means tested payment system??0 -
Thanks for the reply. I'm in Kerry in Ireland. Means tested doesn't really come into it.
One week later, it feels much better. Still a little ache if I put heavy loading on it laterally but no loss in strength. Assuming a soft tissue injury, how long should I rest it for? Haven't been on the bike since last Sunday week mentioned above, but going to try some light XC with a wrist support this Wednesday. If the pain comes back full blown after that I'll probably go to a doctor to get it looked at again.0 -
Went to the doctor this morning. He has it down as a recurring soft tissue injury from when I did the wrist last Summer. So it's physio for me, nothing broken thanks Jesus.0
