Yes, and when I'm back at uni with my camera I'll get a picture of my speedo showing a higher speed.

It's not the speed that's the problem (I regularly hit 50+ mph coming down the local hills) - it's messing about taking photographs at that speed that would worry me...

Stupid idea. I think most of us would be peed off if motorists were on a website taking pics of their speedos - and its a lot easier to take pics in a car than it is on a bike.....

And I get annoyed at car drivers using mobile phones!

You have just shown that you were riding without due care and attention, which is an offence.

It was in the peak district - no cars anywhere, smooth road, high visibility. I'm not a complete nutter! :)

Can we be the judge of that....

That speed is nothing on a bike - but most of us wouldnt think to get cameras out on a descent.

Now if you had two magnets on your wheel - thats more like a decent top speed.

    Two issues -

    1) This is a really, really, really dumb thing to do.

    2) You weren't going very fast so it's not even impressive anyway.

If it's about the speed, use a Garmin, it'll log the speed which you can prove later using SportTracks or the like. If it's about taking an 'extreme' photo, find something that is more impressive and more photogenic than a cycle computer.

I once took a really, really fast photo on my old olympus om10 - it was at 1/1000th sec !!!

22.66 miles in 1hour 42 minutes would give you a average speed of 13 mph.

No wonder you think 33.5mph is fast.

Please don't risk yourself to try and impress us!

For the record, i'd just been climbing at about 8mph for a bout 45 minutes and my fastest speed is 58.9mph so I do not consider this "fast".

As i've already mentioned, there was no traffic. I think it's safer doing this than riding in busy traffic for 15 minutes! I mean, look at the road I did it on for god's sake!!!

This thread was only meant to be a bit of fun, I didn't know you'd all take it so seriously, when I clearly have explained that it was an empty road... You'd not catch me with my phone out when there's traffic about! :?

that's a great looking road - where is that?

but after a 45 minute climb; if that is the decent, it must be a bit dissappointing?

Obviously not as 1337 as Willhub then, he answered his phone on a clubrun, while going through Wythenshawe

Dunno if I'm right but I'd guess at the road between Chapel en le Frith and Glossop?

Based on the 45 min worth of climb beforehand, it is horrific

If I am right there's a kick ass descent round the corner in the distance, dead straight and steep :)

Not sure where as Will has yet to send me the route. :|

It's somewhere along the A54 though - inbetween where it meets the Cat and Fiddle and where you turn off on to Hollin Lane to go towards Sutton in Macclesfield. The descent into Sutton is amazing!

dbb, it's on the way to blaze frarm ice cream shop - it's not as nice in real life as it looks on the pictures.

    Route:

    www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=3737

Remember we cut it short by about 12 miles cause that bit on the A34 and up to near congleton is **** and boring so I did not want to do it.

That is a mighty fine looking road, shame it's in 'northern monkey' world!.

Oh and for the record, 49.2mph, sadly not permanently recorded.
