You may or may not remember the story of Geneviève Jeanson, the Canadian cyclist and past world champ. She tested over the 50-percent limit at the worlds one year, protested her innocence, bla bla bla... you get the picture. But it came back to haunt her when a journalist put her in a corner and she had to admit she had been doped from the age of 16 onwards at the incentive of her coach and her doctor. The confession came in the middle of an interview where she was denying everything. She just cracked. Man, that was good TV!

Anyways, now, 12 months later, the procedures are over and the sentences are in: Her coach, André Aubut, and her doctor, Maurice Duquette, are banned from cycling for life. Jeanson, who announced her retirement, gets a 10-year ban. Yes, that 0 should be there. 10 years! And that's the reduced sentence for having helped the investigation.

You want big sanctions, get the riders sentenced by the Canadian Center for Ethics in Spots.

Nice to hear that. Her story really is a great illustration of the wight of consequences that can develop from a stupid decision over time. She's a really nice girl that has accepted the burden she must carry. I'm just so happy that her coach and doctor will have to bear it as well.

I remember when she won the girls TT and road race at the Worlds and thinking a) what a great talent she was and how much she could do for women's cycling and b) hoping to god she was clean.

Unfortunately, unbelievable performances generally turn out to be just that :(
