I can't speak for the RS10's, but I bought some Racing 5 Evo's for my Giant SCR2 last year, and have had no issues whatsoever with them. They seem a lot nicer than the wheels the bike was supplied with (although I also bought new tyres - Conti GP4000s and went down a tyre size as well so that could have had an effect as well.)

They have done a fair few miles (not loads as I don't use it to commute anymore, probably about 500) and I've had no issues whatsoever reliability-wise.

Also, the freewheel makes the most satisfyingly loud noise...

Sorry but this is my experience
  • Has anyone had big problems with getting tyres on the Fulcrum R5s? The R7s cause many issues, apparently. My tyre lever technique ain't the best.

And what's the difference between the R10 and R20?

I'm going to choose one of these two options for my OCR1 9 speed.

    Thanks

I got RS10's with Conti 4 seasons tyres and have ridden them through the winter, often in the dark which means you don't always avoid potholes and crap on the roads, and they have stayed absolutely true. Spoke tension is also still spot on. Not sure how easy it would be to true these lower spoke count wheels.
  • Have RS20's which were £100 for a pair before christmas, fantastic ride with lighter rims than the RS10.
Replacement freewheel only £20 on Shimano wheels, often more than double that on Mavic and think Fulcrums are the same.

Can also service/regrease the hubs yourself on shimano being simple cup and cone hubs.

I had fulcrum 5's - never again, couldn't get tyres on or off and freehub broke
  • cheers dbg, I was wondering about that.
You try a few different tyres?

I had Fulcrum 5s. The first couple of tyre changes were a pain in the butt. However, some decent levers and technique soon sorted that problem.

I liked the wheels and only stopped using them because I wanted something sexier. I got Shamals which are equally brutal to get tyres on and off, but with a bit of practice (I even lost some skin) it became easy.
