Hi again, The Group a Better Vuelta is posible is doing a poll in the main spanis forums (Foro mtb, foro CyM, foro Ciclismo a fondo, Parlamento ciclista, Locos por el ciclismo, Foro APM and Forobici).

The question is ¿When do you prefer The Vuelta, in spring or in september?

We open this poll because in the last months Unipublic and ASO are talking about come back to spring:

http://archivo.marca.com/edicion/marca/ ... 2975.html#

We like to complete our poll with your opinion, like the main forum in english language.

As in spanish forums, the poll is working for a month

Thanks a lot

best moved to Apri-May...it has to compete with the Giro for top riders so best earlier in season ... most riders are burned out by August or struggle to peak twice in a season which it requires. Also moves the worlds to August...Hein Verbruggen' reforms' should be undone.
  • Half the entrants now are just interested in training for the World Championship, which makes a mockery of especially the points competition. The UCI should make it so the final three weeks of the season go World Champs, Paris Tours and Lombardy on successive weekends as the only major events at the end of the season.

I'd make the Vuelta 2 weeks long. Keep it in September as the climate suits it but there's no need for three weeks. But make the Worlds the weekend before, say at the end of August.

No no no no .........its a Grand Tour and deserves its three week status like the others, taking it down to two weeks is akin to taking the cobbles out of Rouxbaix . Its beauty is the test of the riders in mountains, flats and TTs over three weeks not two.Taking it down to two weeks gives it the same staus as the Tour De Suisse and thats just not on .By all means change the date maybe say to April no problem with that .
Gasping - but somehow still alive !

Keep it as it is. 3 weeks, in September.

Controversial I know, but the Vuelta in autumn has a character all of its own. I like it. Moving it back to April, you'd still have the problem of missing riders - half of them would be waiting for the Giro, half of them would be doing the classics.

September is a gap in the calendar, after the Tour, before the autumn classics. Nothing else is happening. The Vuelta fills a void.

Yeah the sprinters go home after two weeks, but who cares? It just gives other sprinters a chance. An exciting sprint is an exciting sprint, regardless of whether it's Bennati v Cav or I dunno... Napolitano v Clérc.

People forget that when it was run in April they could rarely use the high mountains in the north of Spain as the weather was still too bad. Moving it to September has allowed Unipublic to include some decent climbs.

I agree with MG and afx, keep it as a 3 week GT in September. There might be the odd dull stage but that happens in the Giro and the Tour too.

I totally disagree with the idea of cutting the Vuelta to two weeks. That hopefully will never happen. The race being insulted by 1 day worlds men preparing for worlds is the main problem...the Vuelta needs to go back to pre Giro IMO where it used to grab the limelight first in the season...
