Saddle rail width?

I've just taken delivery of my lovely new shiny Thomson Elite seatpost

But, when I just tried to mount my SDG Bell-Air saddle, the rails were just too wide to fit snugly in the clamp.

I was always under the impression that saddle rails are a universal width....can anyone advise?

maybe your previous seatpost bent them outwards a little bit? have you tried tightening up the thomson seatpost and see if they bend back into place? dunno really never had that problem.

please explain. the diameter of the rails or the spacing of the rails?

spacing the same. width of rails can change.

    Well,

It may just be the rails have been knocked slightly out, or my last clamp just pulled them apart a bit......but in terms of rail-thickness I'm pretty sure they should fit, if they were 2mm closer together. Maybe it's just a case of putting a load on the clamp to pull the seat rails into place? I haven't fully tightened it up yet for fear of wrecking my brand new post....
