    Cheers for the comments guys.

As for the weight, by taking the book weight of the bike and then actual weights of parts removed and added I make it about 19.7lb or 8.95kg but I guess that's not entirely accurate.

The biggest difference has been the final mod, the wheels. Dropping the 1920g Crossrides to the 1460g of the Stans/Hope combo has made a world of difference. There is almost now no energy required to accelerate and holding speed is a heck of a lot easier.

I was a bit dubious about the Eggbeaters as my Time Aliums were faultless for a year and are really positive in the way they hold. But at 415g they stuck out like a sore thumb!!!

I could save more weight by spending silly money (that I haven't got) but the way I see it is that I wanted to build it up using 'mainstream' bits without sacrificing integrity, durability and aesthetics. My grips are 100g over weight but I love the feel of them and the SCOTT logo in them. Plus I think i've hit the sweetspot in terms of cost/weight ratio, i.e. XT chainset - it does what it says on the tin whilst being light enough, as do the XT shifters and XT front mech. The XTR rear is there purely as a piece of jewelry.

The only thing left to do is possibly tubeless using the stans kit, but it's too late to experiment now with Race 1 on Sunday. This would be for punture prevention rather than weight though.

    Cheers again

It feels even lighter now that i've started riding the Kona in Derbyshire and used the Kona as a bit of a training bike.

    35lb + 5-6000ft of climbing = strong legs

Very nice build - it's hard to rationalise full XTR, I got mine before Shimano went potty and upped all it's prices - if I had to do it again, it would be XT all day long.

And you don't want a bike that's so skeletal that it compromises comfort

    Fantastic bike! :D

    Holy thread resurrection Batman!

How did you and the Scale get on in the NPSs then?!
  • lol at the thread resurrection. It looks really nice but rather you riding it than me with the 34.9mm seatpost. I'm sure it'd be comfier with a 27.9 but the frame doesn't alllow it.

    That and 27.9 doesn't exist ;-)

They're fairly compliant though, surprisingly so.

    tastey :)
  • What size frame is that Scale and how tall are you?
  • Where the hell did I get 27.9mm from? I knew I was thinking of 27.?mm though in my messed up head

27.2 Is the one your thinking of.

    Easy mistake though.
