edited June 2009 in MTB buying advice
I m planning to ride london to brighton in June, however my bike is setup for off road conditions (Tiogas 2.3's). Could someone recommend a tyre which would be more suitable, i am currently running D521 rims i m not sure if this would effect the tyre sizing.

Any help would be great !

as in on the road, if so, conti gatorskins or specilized fatboys, both really skinny but should fit onto the 521 rim.

You'll need new inner tubes, and pump them up really hard, you'll be flying along!

The tubes will be too big to fit in the narrow tyres, so yes, new tubes.

if you want something bigger try the tioga FS100 tyres, they're really slick but very nice.

    Well, they're 24 inch...

I use schwalbe marathons on teh road, and tesco inner tubes ;)

Schwalbe Kojak tyres have done me pretty well to be honest. Also, if you run large inner tubes, you're less likely to puncture, so 2.2'' - 3.0'' would be fine (I use 2.5''-2.7''). Yes, they are slightly heavier, but they are almost impossible to penetrate!

If you want something burlier, and with INSANE amounts of grip (really, they grip and grip so much, you can get your knee down Moto-GP stylee) try the Maxxis Hookworm tyres. These should be re-named ''Maxxis The-Tyre-With-Ridiculously-Massive-Grip''. Yes, they are big, and heavy, but you won't punture on these bad-boys. If you pump them up to 60-80psi, they roll as well as any MTB slick, last forever, and are nearly silent! Bonus!

think i would prefer something with atleast some tread on i thought something similar to the DMR's would be ideal dry and wet.

The DMR's have a truely insane amount of grip, and last forever (bizzarely) too.

    <<< EDIT >>>

But they are heavy, and wide. So consider that!

i had a pair of nokian all weather slicks once, they were fantastic! never got a puncture and had groves for water dispersion, you can count on the great brittish summer to deliver you with a mix of sun and rain so they could be perfect!!

I am riding it that this year as well and i have bought some specialised amardillo 1.5 tyres, look great, nice and thin good enough tread for water (hope we don't need it). Also its the amardillo version so you WON'T get a puncture which, lets face it would ruin the day!!!
