Ive been out today with my 5 year old son on his bikes and noticed that his brakes are too hard for him to pull. His bikes is only a cheap one and the brakes are cheapo pressed caliper type. I was thinking about replaing them for decent ones and wondered if anyone has had the same problem and any recommendations.

thanks

Best solution is to buy him a suitable Islabike - their brakes are specifically designed for little hands

Alternatively, find out what brakes Isla Rowntree fits to her bikes and fit ditto

thanks, just checked out the isla site and she uses tektro V brakes and special levers. i have a problem in that this bike does not have V brake braze-ons, i might try to use her levers with roadie calipers.

    thanks

Do the callipers move freely when the cable is released? You might have to play around with the tension in the main pivot bolt of the calliper by undoing one of the nuts 1/4 turn.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
