Hi there,
I've got 2006 Juicy Fives on my bike, and when they work they're great, but when they don't they are a pain.
They have a tendancy to leak around the top cap (common problem it appears), particularly when the bike hasn't been used in a while. They also over a period of time rub on the rotors, and I have to push the pads back. I've had them serviced a while ago by the LBS and it did help for a while but then the problem came back. I suspect that the top caps leak and this allows moisture from the air to get into the fluid, causing it to expand and make the brakes grab. This excess fluid then comes back out when you pull the levers.
Anyways, I'm planning on replacing the top caps and reservoirs on each brake, and then bleeding them to hopefully sort the problem once and for all so first of all I'm planning on buying a bleed kit.
Cheapest I've found is this one at £22.49

Other shops sell it too, but the pictures show more parts, for example

Are there 2 different versions of the kit available or is it just that they have used different pictures?
Final question, looking at the SRAM manual, the parts I need are shown as one item (9a). I'm assuming that ordering this would get me the top cap, 2 screws and the bladder.
See image at the bottom of this post.
I've found it here - Is this correct?

Thanks guys

Ha! Common problem indeed! I've got 3 out of my 4 Juicy's (2x7's & 2x5's) leaking just the same way. One of my mates has the same problem with one of his 5's. TBH so far I've just ignored it and hoped the problem would go away.... The 5's work fine but the 7's have been a PITA since day one. Wouldn't buy 7's again!
They came with my bike and used to lose pressure at the lever on a regular basis. The shop I bought the bike from bled them twice, then sent them away to the distributer who apparantly changed all the seals. The pressure loss seemed to get better. They still feel mushy and crap compared to the 5's but they do at least stop me now. I've since bought a bleed kit and bled them twice just in case the shop wasn't doing it properly!
This may not help, but I've now got the opinion that they're probably a bit hit and miss. If they're crap then they're crap and no amount of tinkering seems to completely solve the problem. I get the feeling maybe some of them are poorly cast? Otherwise I would have thought replacement seals (assuming the distributor actually did replace them!) should have solved the problem. In saying that my bikes currently fully stripped down for a service - when I put it all back together (hopefully some time this week) I'll be stripping and bleeding both brakes so maybe just maybe......0
