Peddles and Spare Kit

Hi all,
I recently bought a MTB bike to get into some off roading and to support me on several adventure races this year.
I was looking for a bike for around £500 (no bike to work scheme) and after hearing several good things, I tried this bike, liked it, and bought it :

Now I have two "newbie" questions:
1) The bike came with pedels that have clips for shoes - as I'm going to be using this for adventure racing, I want to be riding with my trail running shoes. Can anyone advise on how much and where I can get a set of "normal" pedels from, and how complicated these will be to install?
2) Can someone recommend a kit of "spare parts" I should carry around when riding, to make any repairs while racing. E.g. inner tube, tyre spanner etc...
Thanks

Pedals easy to replace, a 15mm spanner or allen key fitting on the reverse - left hand pedal has a left hand thread remember.
Good flat pedals from Wellgo can be had from 10 quid, such as these:

The Wellgo V8 pedals will be great for you and give plenty of grip and will do with any shoe, and cheap aswell from chainreaction who will have them delivered next day if you order before 3pm, i've had nothing but great service from them. They will be easy enough to fit if you have a long spanner or most bike shops should do them in a matter of minutes for a few quid.
As for spare stuff, i usually have a spare tube, pump, multitool, tyre levers, slime skab patches, some duct tape and spare zip ties. and chocolate.2009 - Giant Trance X3
2011 - Focus Black Forest XT0 -
2nd Wellgo V8 or V12 replicas.
Chain reaction cycles, Wiggle, Merlin etc the place to buy.
Look at http://www.parktool.com/repair/byregion.asp?catid=60 and Sheldon Browns pages http://www.sheldonbrown.com to learn evrything you'll ever need to know.
Tubes, SRAM power links, zip ties a must, I assume you've got hydration covered.
Would need to know how new to adventure racing you are for more advice. 1st aid, space blankets, orienteering skills, maps etc etc??0 -
For only a few quid more might as well get the V8's they have claw like grip in all conditions.
