    For many yes.
Not many budget carbon posts about, but a good budget alloy one is the SMICA Pro.
  • Doubt youll do much better than this money wise :)

    Any views on this one?

Is it likely to be an improvement (or worth bothering) on a stock seat post? Like the idea of the set back to give the option of opening up the Hardrock cockpit a bit more.

Not sure whether 15 grams is worth an extra £20!

i second the spoon saddle. But just a heads up, white saddles tend to go yellow...

I just bought Thomson set back seatpost and Charge Leather Ti Spoon saddle to replace SDG post and Bel Air SL saddle.

Very comfy and well made - well happy

Thompson Elite seatposts IMO are some of the best you can buy. Setback is a personal thing, but I'd say you can't go far wrong with one of those.

Thomson Elite IS the best seatpost you can buy, as long as you are not trying to make a bike that is too small for you fit by running the saddle all the way back

the Thomson post has the best strength to weight ratio and value for money, best manufacturing quality, failure mode if you crash and a sublime design - as a trained Industrial Designer I appreciate Thomsons stems and posts for the right reasons!

I own 5 Thomson seatposts and 4 Thomson stems on my bikes ;)

Evans are blowing out the WTB Devo Titanium saddles reduced from £80 to £40 at the moment, I have 2 of these saddles and can report that despite their minimal shape, they are the most comfortable saddle I have used in 20 years of riding, even better than the legendary Selle Italia Flite

of course saddles are a very personal thing, but its awesome value for money, crazy light and so comfortable I haven't even bothered riding in padded shorts!

    Elite Setback

Strangely this is one item I fitted to the bike without weighing!

It seems to be a similar weight to the SDG stuff I had before maybe a slight bit heavier.

But to be honest the build quality of both items was far superior (and looked nice with my Thomson stem  ) so any changes in weight didnt bother me.

The spoon sounds great but Wiggle have only got the 138 and i need 146 plus i have read a few reviews where people have complained about the stitching causing chaffing????
  • Another vote for the Spoon here. Not had any problem with the stitching chafing, but then I always wear clothes when cycling!

As far as I'm aware, they only do one width.

Spoon rocks, just got a Knife for the road bike, that was a worrying move but fine so far. :D

Pro Bike Kit is always good for cheap unbranded carbon, just got myself a post for about £12, 27.2mm only though, SMICA always highly regarded (especially by Sonic!), and my Titec has done my 14.5 stone proud for last 12 months and still going strong.

I have had my seat bone width measured at two LBS and had different readings from each?? Does the Spoon come in various widths? When riding with my current perch my toes tend to go numb, is that purely down to an incorrect saddle?

not necessarily, could also be a lower back issue, more likely though is the saddle restricting blood flow.

More likely still is that your shoes are too tight, your feet swell when riding, moreso when it is hot. After 30mins or so stop and re-adjust your footwear, then you should be fine.

I do get some lower back pain after a while? I am at cannock tomorrow so will try loosening my shoes as you suggested.

Rode cannock for a couple of hours today with loosened shoes. It was a bit better in the numb toe dept but still not comfortable.
