Will 28mm tyres fit on my Trek 1.7 08 (700*28)

I have just ordered some Vittoria Randonneurs as training tyres and was wondering if the 700c*28 size would fit on the frame (clearance etc).

Probably not - most race frames take 25mm max IME as it's often the clearance under the brake caliper that dictates the size of the tyre. There's also a difference in tyre size between different manufacturers - a Michelin 25mm is about 2-3mm bigger than a Conti 25mm for example.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

measure your current gap and go from there. Tyres don't necessarily measure up exactly as specced but they won't be too far off.

If you run 23mm tyres you'll need >3mm clearance each side, and so on.

I have a 1.5 and asked Trek a similar question; they reckoned that 28s would fit - I assume the frames are much the same.
