Paul, have you used Mercian lately? Any idea how much their re-enamel and renovation prices increased over well out-of-date list on web site? And do you know if they will do just new braze-ons (so that I could then get a powder coat elsewhere - and cheaper!)?

If their prices have increased over the website then they are now prohibitively expensive. I've recently priced up a restoration and Mercian came out as most expensive based upon the old price list (prices are exc. VAT!). Argos are cheaper and have a better reputation from what I can gather.

FYI, the cheapest (without going to vaz in London given the number of disappointed customers from there) was Ellis Briggs.

Thanks Graham - as you say, sure ain't cheap! Only "plus" is that near enough for me to ride over and ask if they can do what I want and, if so, then later take the bare frame in the car!
