Mini pumps on frame mounts, is it wrong?

I can't bring myself to put a new pump with its little bracket on my bike. I put my pump in my jersey rear pocket along with food, tubes, levers etc.

I think to buy a nice road bike and hang things off centre on the frame isnt the done thing.

Has anyone else got any thoughts on this?

you're right - it is wrong. In fact, I believe there is a law against it. The only thing that should be bolted to bicycles are bottle cages...

I've no problem with it. At least its harder to leave the pump at home by accident.
  • mini pumps are for pockets....

    if you want a pump-on-frame,
go full size frame-pump on a horizontal top-tube bike,
preferrably a steel one,for the whole retro thang.

Find a "riding buddy" with his/her own pump and leave yours at home. Mini pumps just look like some kind of sexual pleasure device anyways.

I've a carbon wrapped mini pump on my frame next to the carbon bottle holders and IMHO it looks just fine. It cost a stupid amount and isn't any lighter than any othe pump but it does look good
  • How mini is a mini pump meant to be? My one sits under the top tube, as there is not a pocket I possess that could hold it.

I really dont understand the problem of having a pump on the frame of my road bike. It fits there without catching on my legs and so does not interfere with my pedalling.

Does it really matter whether its on your person or on your bike?

On non-stop centuries, I need my pockets empty for food, so the pump goes on the frame, tube and tools go in the saddle bag. I can't be bothered to take my pump mount off for shorter rides, so it stays put.

This is something I lose sleep over. Why have I bought a mini pump & then bolted it to the frame? I'm now wishing that rather than the lezyne I'd bought the sks puro which though on all accounts doesn't work looks the part.

I take a 10" pump with a large diameter barrell on my rides. I keep it down the front of my shorts along with two oranges.

Well you never know your luck, do you?

Zipties, they sound a bit flash.

Ziptied to your forks? That can't be right, thats worse than sticking them on your frame.

this is a mini pump, fits in a pocket, aerodynamic on forks not.

Have you got a couple of inner tubes ziptied to your brake blocks aswell ?

Why ask anyone? You want it in your pocket? Put it in your pocket. I think you'll find that no one cares what you do with your pump. Although I could make a suggestion on where you can put it.

Actually that's not a bad idea, though I suppose taking the saddle off would be a bit of extra faff when you were fixing a puncture. Hmmm...

Just get on with your cycling dmclite and do what you want to do not what you think others might feel is the 'right' thing to do. If you're a closet 'pump carrier on your racer' then do it or If you're happy to put the weight on your back so be it. For myself a frame fit HP Zefal is just the job; it really works in the emergency which a puncture is, and gets my tyre up to 80psi pronto, which is more than can be said for the only minipump that I've owned.

Tim farr, you are a bit serious arent you? 80psi, you devil...

I put ironic posts on here, for fun, no offence is ever meant, I just try and get a bit of back and forth going and have a laugh. there have been some really good topics on here where I have burst out laughing at different responses which have not been malicious, aggresive or offensive. Seems that you open yourself up for different views all the time you post something, suppose I will have to ignore the needly stuff and get on with the light hearted stuff. Watch the next post...

Can we start a serious forum page where no humour is allowed?
Or is that open to serious intonation too?

I'm fed up now, I'm off out on my bike to cheer myself up, just get my SKS PURO MINI PUMP, MAX PSI 144 or 10 BAR and put it in my pocket...lovely :D

:D:):o:lol: I was going to start quoting things here but I would have ended up quoting the whole thread, friggen hilarious, and for the record mines 50cm long wedged under the top tube, haven't had a flat in five years so I just loan it out to my mates when the need arises. Nothing like leaning up against your bike watching your mate go to town on your pump  What the!.

Yeah, I think the threads been good as well, never tried to tell anyone what to do, just raising an issue and see what happens BigStu2.

I dont really care what everyone else does really, you can strap a track pump to your helmet, forks frame. It does show you who gets frothy about little things, some anger is out there...

Ok, I' off to slip my clogs on, trim me beard and cook some kippers for my tea.

    have a nice day everyone.

Ps, Mini pumps in pockets or else... :D:D:D:D:D

I think you're going to be really disappointed with your 144PSI pump. I'm thinking that if
you have arms and pecs like Arnold you might get 100 out of one of those things.
Key words "if", "might", and "Arnold".:wink:

Awww, I didn't realise it was a joke. I really do get upset when I have to fix something ugly to my bike, i.e. pump, bell (gone), light brackets, computer sensor (that one really hurts - black cable ties on a silver fork), my scrawny body, etc , etc
  • hey,all you Lad's with a little one...here's the final word.

    go deflate your tire,then
try getting back up to pressure with your 'little thing'.

you'll be back with a full size under the top tube the next day.
