only if you don't mind anyway please:

Budget: £500

Don't care what year its from

Looking for:

Something that will be capable on trails, small jumps, and generally forgiving

Good fork

Hydro brakes

Edit: Also as light as possible please

and obviously the best gear set i can get for the money

Lets see what comes up here, I have had so many ideas its untrue this may probably makes things worse but if you could post links to the bike you're talking about, that would be much easier.

thank

(will probably end up posting a poll based on the outcome of this post)

thanks for quick reply, is 14.7 kgs not quite heavy for a hardtail? or is this the sort of weight i will be looking for at my budget?

That is quite heavy, but if you want a bike that has all that kit at that price, and a good fork with bits that will take a bit of punishment, then not too bad!

Where did you get that weight from?

I got the weight from the halfords website where someone asked how heavy it was and the 'halfords web team' answered it :D

also is the 7005 series alloy any worse or better than the 6000 series alloys

not sure how 16" would measure up, im 5' 11"

The alloy is much of a muchness - 7000 has slightly higher tensile strength. 6000 series is easier to form and weld.

My money'd be on the Fury too. I think that weight might be wrong, I'm pretty sure that the Fury was lighter than my Kraken was, and it was less than 14.7kg. I'd pop into the store with a set of fish scales if you want to be sure ;)

I'd say you can't go wrong with a Fury (although I am biased as I have one).

For the price its difficult to beat its spec and the fork is excellent. Comfortable ride well spec'd for the price. I'm only upgrading mine as I've got the option to get a new one through the bike scheme otherwise I'd happily keep it.

well as halfords are pretty much everywhere, one of them near me has to have one in to have a look at and feel, but yeah the fork does look pretty decent on it.

The models i have been mainly contemplating (there are more though)

    Dawes XC 1.8
    GT aggressor
    Claud Butler Cape Wrath D27

thanks for everyones help so far

    lol.

The new Agressor 1.0 looks pretty nice, 15mm thru axle fork (though it is a zocchi whuch means it will die)

wow, both your comments shocked me, are they really that bad, the cape wrath got a 4 1/2 star review from bikeradar so didn't think it could be that bad?

in what way do you mean worse, vfm? frame? components?

And i've got a mate telling me marzocchi are the most reliable thing going and you say that, are they notorioulsy bad then?

The new zocchis are shocking. Poor quality.

Cape Wrath is a good bike, but the Fury is just better. Though try it out.

The XCR fork you find in the others doesn't belong in a £500 bike, IMO. The Tora 318 in the Fury is sooooo much better. At this price point, forks aren't everything but they're probably the most important part as long as the frame doesn't suck, which it doesn't on any of these.

Really? **** me. Heh, at that price it makes more sense to get a Fury, keep the fork and sell the rest on ebay

    Genesis Core 10.

I haven't ridden a 10, but tried a Core 30 and was blown away by it. Evans stock them, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one to try out...

that core 10 looks very nice, will try one out if i get a chance, how well is that fork rated does anyone know?, im gonna have a hunt round for info.

And also I have heard some bad things about the m485 shimano discs, so does anybody know much about the m486's? are they improved much, can't find too much info on these

20 inch fury is 14.1 kg. Not sure if the offer is on anymore but you might be able to get a store down to £399 for an 08. I also quoted one of the on line offer vouchers and got an extra £20 off.

Changed the tyres and it's been pretty quick round rendlsham forest and alton water. I'm trying tunstall this afternoon.

thanks geordie, my keyboards just been drowned in drool! :D

that looks a really nice bike, i wasn't really considering full suspension until i saw that!

are chain reaction the only BeOne stockists or are there loads around?
  • To be honest mate, I keep commenting coz people always ask similar questions to yourself, : I would never buy "the latest model" its like buying a brand new car you lose money straight away go for last season stuff or even season before, the technology is never very different and sometimes the newer models come less equipped than the old one, there are some real bargains to be had with the credit crunch people just want to shift stock, so its up to you to shop around. I must admit I was looking for a bike around the £500-£700 mark for my step brother when I found this, im not sure what it's like but as with anything you like the look of , do your research, read reviews or post a thread on here theres always someone who knows something, but I have to say it looks a pretty cool well specced machine for the money and if I had £560 I would definately consider it. Hope you find what you want. Ps I ride full suspension after years of hard tails and never looked back I love ful sus. (just my opinion)
  • Just done a bit of reding up/research. mainly coz my bikes broke, im off work and it's too windy to ride anyway, and although I could only find 1 review for this particular model I found a few reviews on other versions (2.0) and other BeOne bikes and the general consensus seems to be good !!........does look good though ha ha for some reason I keep being drawn to it myself !

The UK's largest online bike shop, Chain Reaction Cycles are set to be the exclusive UK distributor for BeOne Bikes.

Damn. So its a bit of an arse that i cannot go and try this bike out before i buy it
  • Try posting a thread on here, im sure someone will know more about them ? Let me know what the title is I would be interested to know myself what kind of full susser it is for that kind of money !

Further questioon to avoid starting another thread but may have to if this doesn't get enough attention,

My local shop are selling what looks like pretty good value to me in alignment with web prices a:

    GT Avalanche 2.0 £450
    GT Avalanche 1.0 £499

First of all is the 1 worth it for the extra £50 because it looks it to me, and also the shop doesn't have much selection theres not much to choose from here, i can go to some other shops in colchester but much easier if these bikes are good enough for the money.

Does anyone have any rec. on the 1.0 cos thats the one im most tempted by

GTracer, I wouldn't buy the Avalanche 2.0 at that price because you can find it
under £400 in some places. But the price for the 1.0 is good and it's worthed the £50 more.

Halfords have 20% off GT's this weekend, so Aggressor 1 is just £440 - not sure whether this is good or not (in same position as you looking for a £500 hardtail, and not really clued up on MTB's), but seems okay.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Ok thanks, I decided I am gonna go to colchester to look becuase of there being so much other choice in these other shops i know, but will keep the avalanche on my favourites list
