Hi guys,

I am replacing the chain that came with my bike as its nearing the end of its working life. I have been recommended the KMC chains as apparently are as good as the Shimano ones (got Shimano Tiagra) and cheaper.

I have been looking at the KMC X9 (X9.93) 9 Spd Chain http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productcatalogue=KMCACHAI400 Is that any good? My bike is 9 speed and have no clues about chains!!! :)

What do you guys think?

Cheers,

    KMC make shimano chains so.......;..

I recently replaced my chain with a KMC one and it feels fine(in fact feels better than the Ultegra one i did have) however there have been people on here who have suggested they're prone to snapping, i haven't had mine long enough to comment but i don't see there being a huge problem otherwise the company wouldn't last.

I did not suggest that they are "prone to snapping". It just looked like a dodgy batch of 10speed chains as all the chains I bought at the same time are snapping - but I've been using KMC chains for years with no issue until this lot.

Although Willhub's 9spd chain snapped on it's first ride this week :?

Try Wipperman or SRAM chains, is my recommendation.

    Thanks Stefanos4784 for the info

To be honest, the prices in ribble are not very different and I don't care if I have to spend a couple of quid more for a better chain. Snapping ... doesn't sound good.

    Shimano - snap happy
    SRAM - snap happy
    KMC - never snapped one.

Even on new bikes I'll replace my chains straight away with a KMC chain
Can't recommend them highly enough. Use them on everything from my singlespeeds, MTB and Road bikes.

Yep, 100 % reliability with my KMC chains - I replace mine every 4-6 months approx though.

KMC or SRAM here. The hollowpin 9spd SRAM is a good chain, if you can find it fairly cheap.
