Pedals, Straps?
Hello,
I am currently riding with a pair of SDP-SL pedals and I am looking to ride with straps for added security. I know it is possible to modify them, is this easy? Can anyone give me advice on some good pedals I could buy that come with straps?
Thank you

Why do it?
Are you a proto-Sir Chris with muscles like Hercules?
Just adjust the release pressure as tight as it will go and improve your pedalling technique to avoid any twisting of the foot.Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -
I think most of your options where covered in your original “which track pedal” thread.
The only pedals not mentioned were the MKS pedals which take clips and straps – you can get them from http://www.hubjub.co.uk.
If you’re happy with the SPD-SLs, why don’t you modify those to take straps. As I mentioned last time I have a pair that follow Tomity’s design:
or if you use the newer style SPD-SLs, there was a picture posted in the other thread showing the cheap zip tie method.OffTheBackAdam wrote:Why do it?

Pulling a foot on the track under high load is a most unpleasant experience I can assure you.
It is not a freewheel get out of jail free experience.
It is crash time. Guaranteed.
Anything that makes you think for a moment you shoudn't put absolutely every living ounce of effort into those pedals is a bad thing. Even with straps it can happen. Ask Shane Kelly.0 -
Thanks guys0

It's not just on the track either, the technique is very useful in hillclimbs as well. I think that on the track the best approach is still John Nicholson's from the seventies, bolt the shoe to the pedals. A bit inconvenient when you want to stop!0

We like straps. We like double straps even more...
We really really like to have our feet stay on the pedals......
