Calderdale Singletrack

I’ve just moved up to Calderdale near Lud Foot and I’ve been exploring the area for the last few weeks looking for single-track. I’ve found a few bit’s but not much. I know there’s more out there to be discovered and would like to put a loop route together. I’ve tried just putting bridleways together in a loop but they usually are poorly constructed which ruins the flow. However I am getting fitter Calderdale’s valleys are so steep. I went out for a 30mile run the other day and nearly covered 6000 total ascent!!!
Can anyone out there give me a little local knowledge otherwise i’m going to have to ride every bridleway in the area. I would like to explore mainly around Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.
If anyone what’s to meet up for a ride one weekend to show the best trails the post ride pints are on me!
Cheers Adam

There are loads of tracks around there and quite a few members on here who ride them regularly, I've few routes round there stored in Memory Map. If you like I can email you some .gpx or .mmo files?0

If you go from Tod to Hebden Bridge there's a layby on your left. Just a bit further on there's a butty van called (I think) Hot Stuff. Usually staffed by MILFs  Even further on there's a railway bridge where a minor road goes off left, with a track on the left immediately after the bridge.
From either the lay by, or right behind the butty van there are singletracks that start in a small cluster of buildings near Upper Eastwood. You'll have to do some exploring - I've been down there several times, and always finished up in a different spot. Not very long, but steep and rough. Hard to find from the tops so you're probably better walking up to see what's what.Frank Yates0 -

I'm looking on Google earth right now. I've seen the butty van you talking when I've driven past about so shouldn't to hard to find. I will stop and check out the MILF anyway. :P
I will go and check it out this weekend.0 -
pm me your email address and I'll send them over (I'm at work at moment and most are on my PC at home but I do have a few here)0

You could always go to Gauxholme. Can't find it on the map, but it exists according to this morning's papers. Some tosser in a BMW had to be towed out after following his GPS and is now facing a charge of careless driving. Stumpy Jon might know it better.Frank Yates0

S*** that's funny. Was he just looking for single track. I need a singletrack Satnav for my Bike. The stupidity of people never fails to amuse me.
My Bro knows someone who dove into a 6foot deep river in wales because the satnav told him it was a ford, he wrote of his car. I laughed and I laughed.0 -
I once saw an AA Patrolman drive his van into the ford in Little Langdale, because his satnav told him to go there. He was warned before he touched the water, but still went ahead. Lots of folk watched, and he got really angry when the cameras came out. Needed a tractor to pull him out - backwards and then he went the way he should have gone in the first place. He was really late for his callout, so bad marks for him. Good laugh though.Frank Yates0

That'll be me then!!
Any time as long as its Saturday (up to the end of the football season anyway)! Oh, and I'm no whippet either, I've lived round here all my life and I still can't climb hills for love nor money!!!0 -
Yep we got hills round here alright. Was looking on google maps last night trying to work out where that idiot got stuck, looks like the double track morphed into singletrack .
Next time I'm out for a ride around Calderdale I'll PM you (if Dave doesn't beat me to the pint ).It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
If you're an incomer to Lud Foot then you can expect the operation to have a third eye fitted to your forehead some time soon, you will be given the key to the gates to Calder Valley. The gates are closed at 10 each night, nobody is allowed in or out so the local can practice witchcraft and slaughter some goats.
Meanwhile get in training for this.

I can stretch to a few pints if you both come. I've got to go to a wedding this weekend (crap no cycling) but def up for a ride next weekend, hunt down some singletrack, then i'm off to the welsh valleys for 2 weeks trail riding. Bliss! Let me know if you're not busy and we'll arrange a meet. PM anytime0 -
Used to live in Heb Bridge, and I went out in the evenings with group from Blazing Saddles bike shop. If you go and ask in there I'm sure they'll make you welcome to go along with them.0

I'm defiantly up for this, I'll have to convince some of my mates to come up for the weekend thanks for the info. In 6 months time I'll be whizzing up these Calder valley hills steep as they are.0 -

Might be tempted to join in, once the bike is back together. Main pivots are shot so I'm on the hardtail until the repacement bearings arrive. Yes I know a hardtail can be ridden round there, but dave wants us to wear stilettos and the colour will clash!Frank Yates0 -
