Have got a new Colnago Extreme C and want to make it light and faster. Currently have Eurus wheels and wondering if there are worthwhile upgrades?

Thinking of Shamals or even handbuilt - Tune on Open Pro's. Is it worth it, any other choices to consider?

If you want to make oyu bike faster go training :-)

If you want blingy wheels, any of the expensive campag wheels are sweet eye-candy. Personally i'd like something with a bit of individuality and maintainability, like DT rr1.1 double-eyelet rims on tune hubs. Google for poshbikes. Paul V used to rave about Lew Racing rims a while ago - if you can get a set built on those you will have a very light and exclusive pair of wheels that you can retrue yourself.

How deep are your pockets? Without going to carbon, a Shamal Ultra of Fulcrum Zero is pretty well as good as it gets in terms of weight, stiffness and durability - but also depends on your riding style and weight. Whilst handbuilts are reliable and fairly light, they simply don't feel as fast as some top range factory wheels.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Pockets are fairly deep :) I've gone for old Record 10sp (don't believe in 11 speed) and Ritchey WCS. Don't want carbon wheels as I'm a nervous descender. Fighting weight is 80kg and like climbing.

Are the Shamals significantly better then the Eurus - the Eurus wheels have served me well so far

if you can lose 1kg in weight that's substantially more than you lose buying a 'lighter'wheelset where you'll save 200g?

I weight train as well as cycling so don't really want to lose muscle mass. Granted I'm not ideal build for climbing but I do enjoy it so any advantage in equipment would be nice

If you're pockets are deep get some Boras or Lightweights, why would being a nervous descender put you off carbon wheels?

Braking on carbon is not as good as alloy - I like to feel in control of my speed
