A mate of mine has asked me what is the best FreeRide bike to get for approx £1000.

I had no idea really, so I thought I would ask you guys then send him a link to this thread.

Cheers

This is a bad bracket (price wise) to get into for a FR bike.

They are *generally* harder to get than hardtail at that price point, with half decent components......

To get a good FR rig you ae looking at £1800 +

    It's ******** but true

^^ secondhand is the best option, otherwise you'll end up with a dud for that money

wow that's quite a price hike! yoinks better tell him to get busking/begging/on the game some more :)

The basic advice I gave him was look for long travel in the front fork and rear shock, 160mm front, 150mm back.

Possibly a Carrera Banshee XXX on a budget.
  • got the banshee xxx myself and love it to bits, not too sure that full on freeriding is within its capabilities though, or maybe its just that i dont have mine set up right. however, if your mate is just up for the occasional 6ft drop and the odd run down a 4x track or a play on dowhill tracks then the xxx is ideal. other than a broken rear mech hanger when dragging a felled tree branch ito my back wheel mine has served me very well and has seen some punishment over the last 5 months of me owning it. looking on halfords site, the xxx doesnt seem to be availabel anymore so if you can order 1 instore from another branch you might be up for a bit of discount. managed to get mine down from £1000 to £810. anyway hope this helps, happy hunting :)

Damn that twig!!! still stuck to the flaming great branch and must have had rear mech magnetism :(

I told him to go for the Pitch Comp but that's the one I will probably get so can't have both the same bikes now.. that's just not cricket.
