Shorne country park
went there today and i must admit I quite liked it, ill be damned if i could follow the mapssupplied but still found quite steep climbs and some great downhills, tons of singletrack butno real tecchy stuff. this plus good facilities are a helpespecielly as there aren't tons of places for the sport around the area.

Hi, I was at Shorne Country Park on Saturday, not bad for a local ride... I start off by entering the woods off of crutches lane, theres a path that leads up to the ridge way, then along to shorne country park, then over the motorway and up to Cobham Hall mausoleum...
Unfortunatly there donesn't seem to be many good local rides around here...2009 TREK 8000

You guys just aren't looking hard enough, there are plenty of places to ride around here.
Shorne Country Park is good with varied terrain and routes, including the dirt jumps at Big Bertha. There's also Ashenbank Wood just the other side of the A2. Nice downhill run from the Mausoleum to the M2, then cut down to Higham and either come back along the canal road (not actually a road) or the river front.
Every time I go out we discover a new route, it's great and keeps it interesting.0 -
'Big Bertha' haven't been there since being at shorne primary school about 20 years ago now! Fond memories of it though...
Never been to Ashenbank Wood but will give it a go now...
Just looking at google maps, have you ever been through the woods south of cuxton along the north downs way? What are they like?

Haven't done that one yet, we start out from Gravesend. Biggest loop we've done so far is about 18 miles, Cuxton would be a step up from that and is something we are thinking about.
Primary school about 20 years ago eh? Makes us in a similar age bracket then.0 -
Was up there today, good ride but muddy in places, only to be expected considering yesterdays weather.0

i ride with meddle and as he says we've found loads of tracks and loops at Shorne CP, the Darnley Mausoleum and now started riding through Ashenbank wood and reckon theres more to explore in there too
last time at the Darnley M'
we took the blue route back and some of the red route
that was some interesting stuff
sort of half way down the hillside towards Cuxton0 -

Not a problem, you're more than welcome.0

Kind of ressurected this thread but shorne country park are my local trails. There is some really good singletrack here but I find as it's also used by horses it's not as flowy as it could be. The place has so much potential and could house a dedicated mtb trail if pushed for.
Regarding ashenbank woods, I've had a quick hack though it. Found it very tight and technical, when I ventured off the marked route but havnt gone any further.
Am from gravesed myself so any tips on where else to go would be greatly appreciated.0 -
Not ridden much this year due to theft of bike bits and then a broken ankle later in the year. Hoping to be mobile again soon but have a lot of work to do to get my fitness back. Definitely going to get back out riding though. Will be interesting to see how the trails have changed.0

Optimistically redirecting this old post.
Can anyone tell me where Big Bertha actually is? I've been round Shorne Country Park several times now and have never come across it?
