Aberdeen Cyclists being Pampered - Newspaper Article

To redress the London related articles I post, here's one from way up north in Aberdeen. The article in the Aberdeen Press and Journal, thanks to the Aberdeen Cycling Forum(good site they have)
While I'm no fan of cycle lanes, the tone of the article towards cycling is symptomatic of a lot of what is written in the press and on the radio about cyclists. Indirectly it doesn't do us any favours by developing a 'they deserved it' attitude amongst road users when a cyclists is hit by a car.
Only last week, I listed to LBC Radio, which did a piece on cycling where the (not surprising) the tone was anti-cycling, saying how dangerous it is  but a caller rang in to complain how, if he killed a cyclist, he would have to live with it, and that cyclists didn't think about that. I felt like shouting at the radio 'don't kill the cyclist in the first place' but for the sake of my cycling karma, I switched over.

Good to see they've really got their finger on the pulse.
Another for the Hall of Fame occupied by Hugo Rifkind and Matthew Parris. Maybe the editor is after a job at The Times.Bike1

Good to see the editor getting it handed to him on a plate0

Given the effect that being faced with a right-turning driver, who hasn't seen you, has on the sphincter muscles, being Pampered strikes me as an excellent ideaOrganising the Bradford Kids Saturday Bike Club at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre since 1998

The Travellers' Curse after Misdirection
(from the Welsh)
May they stumble, stage by stage
On an endless Pilgrimage
Dawn and dusk, mile after mile
At each and every step a stile
At each and every step withal
May they catch their feet and fall
At each and every fall they take
May a bone within them break
And may the bone that breaks within
Not be, for variations sake
Now rib, now thigh, now arm, now shin
but always, without fail, the NECK

This attitude is bizzare. Unless you're jumping off mountains the cycling is probably only marginally more dangerous than walking (but then, walking on mountains can be quite dangerous).
I think a lot of people who quote cycling as being dangerous actually mean cars can be dangerous to cyclists.
I.e. cycling is not dangerous, being stuck by a car is.0 -
Down in Brixham they spent £120k on 170 yards of cyclepath with much complaint from the locals
