Is this carrera worth spending money on?

Hi, ive had this banshee for 7/8 years maybe but the gears are starting to crumble since ive only really been using it this last year again since the time i bought it. ive been told by 2 people its not worth spending any money on as it would come to over £100 but then again i dont want to buy a crappy £100 new bike as im sure the banshee frame would be better than any other frame on a £100 bike so i thought it might be better to get new parts put onto it or am i wasting my time? the parts im thinking about are the crank/cassette/chain/new brake blocks but im unsure what else i might need.
