Just looking for some advice guys, been commuting to work for the last few weeks and absolutely lovin it and the times are improving steadily. Now's time to start to improve the bike and my kit as I have proved to myself I'll stick to this . . . . . .
First thing I've done is buy some Shimano A530 pedals (wanted some that I could use with normal trainers for trips to the shops etc !!) and now need to buy some SPDs.
Any thoughts on the best ones, commute is about 10 miles each way but enjoy longer rides at the weekend. On a bit of a budget as I quite the ratrace last year and am now in my first year as primary school teacher - great job but pay not so great !!!!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jus,
My commute is same as yours and I use these:

They have been v comfortable, easy to walk in and do make you quicker vs normal trainers. I use the same system on my road bike for weekends.
2 bits of advice.
1 Make sure you try them on before buying, the fit on these is great for most but some people prefer other brands eg shimano (terrible fit for me).
2 If you have never ridden clipped in on spd's make sure you practice plenty on empty sideroads before you commute in them. Avoids the otherwise inevitable falls!!0 -
If your on a budget and want to try SPD then Aldi (or Lildl) the other day and had SPD compatable shoes for £18 Looked fairly good?0

Just got a pair of MO85s £36 fro je james - only done 30m in them but so far so good (except for the colour)0

Like any shoes, you have to go with what feels comfortable, I love specialised but they work with my feet. You have your own feet so try before you bug.Fixed, commute: Langster 08, FCN6
Road : Aravis (byercycles) Shimano 105 triple
Hybrid: Trek 7.2 FX, unused / unloved0 -
I have a pair of the dhb mtb shoes from wiggle. get on with them well so far and they are a good priceOfficers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0

I have two pairs of Spesh shoes - MTB BG Comp for commuting. They are about 3 years old, comfortable and easy to walk in. You'll soon get used to clippping in.Bike1
