I've knocked my front mech out on a few occassions

I've had my bike for a year and twice I've somehow managed to knock the front mech out of position. luckily enough the last time there was a mechanic nearby who did it for free.

Any advice on what I should do to avoid it happening again or is it just something that happens?

never hit a front mech yet.

My old XT you to jam when downshifting, I would kick it mid shift to help it lol.
