i use shimano m520 spd pedals on my winter bike double sided multi release, and my new summer bike trek 1.5 has shimano 105 spd sl pedals one sided and not multi release, and even though the pedals are wider then the m520, i dont notice any difference while riding the 105 bike if anything i find the m520 easy to release and you can also walk in the specialized shoes better and find the 105 pedals harder to release

Yeh the M520 pedals are much more user friendly when it comes to getting in and out, and walking in. Although I find that you get better feedback from the spd SL pedals, and improved transfer of power to the pedal - assuming you're using a quality road shoe compatible with the SL pedal. Theres nout wrong with using m520s though.

I've got m540s and 105 everything else on my all year round bike. Lovely!
