Measuring seatpost setback

How do I correctly measure the amount of setback on my seat post? Tried to google this but nothing comes up at all.

I am looking for more setback as I have recently been finding my cockpit a tad cramped and been trying to push myself off the back of the seat. I pushed it back on the rails to a place that was almost OK but the clamp was too far forward and the seat was a bit loose. Only problem is its hard to guess how much setback I need if I don't know what I already have!

Thanks

  • You can get a rough measurement using a ruler. Measure horizontally from the centre of the post to the centre of the clamp. This method could easily be 5mm out either way though, even after practicing on a post with known setback.

A longer stem may be a better option, especially if your pedalling position is OK.

I have a 105mm stem and am happy with it. My options are a lower rise bar or more setback. Eventually I will probably do both but as I keep trying to push myself off the back of my seat I think the post is a good option and see how it feels.

Tried measuring as you suggested and it measures up at about 25mm which is what I expected. Thanks for your help!
