Can I put 29" wheels with road tyres on spesh stumpy?

I know it's like crossing over to the dark side, but lately I've been hankering for some road rides, and I've signed up for London to Brighton in June. At the moment I've got nimbus armadillos on my stumpjumper but wondered if I could get a whole new wheelset with larger wheels and dedicated tyres to save time in swapping to go play in the mud. Would it be cheaper to just buy a road bike???

It should clear! Obviously you must run discs, but it usually works fine.0

Do I need 29ers? I'm assuming the bigger wheels would mean more speed...0

You need the gears to match. Bigger wheels means you need a smaller gear combo to make the bike go a certain distance. So basically it ups your gearing slightly.
29er rims are the same measurement as 700c.0 -
yes i thought they were. So by the time I've bought new gears, and wheel sets and discs I could be spending say £500 on a roadworthy road bike!0
