Hi guy's, i have some fox float rl forks. I've bedded them in and thought i'd best do the dust seal maintenance as advised by fox. They say this needs to be done every 15 hours, i wash my bike immediately after every ride and pay special attention to the forks making sure there spotless!
When i did the service there wasn't a spec of dirt there. Is the 15 hour service recommendation a must or is it overkill. I ride 3 times a week so i'd have to do it once a week!

I have had my fox 32 rl 100 for over a year.

Never had to do anything to them accept pressure.

    They still run good

I use everyday, and then on weekends to afan or cwmcarn.

The Fox service intervals are overkill. Most important thing is to clean the stanchions after each ride. I let my LBS (aren't I kind) service my Talas forks once a year, so far no issues.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I've got some Fox RL forks as well. only thing I've done is wipe them down when cleaning the bike after a muddy ride. They've only gone once and my local bike shop just pumped them up. I have them 15 psi over the reccomended limit for my weight (I think they're like 100psi or something) as that's how I like them, other than that they work perfectly.

Ive only ever serviced my F100Rl's once (in about 18 months), spent £20 on parts, dust wiper seal kit, new fork fluid and a spare half hour, job done and saved me forking out £100 quid for a mojo/tftuned service to do the same thing. As long as you keep them in good nick they should be ok, look for obvious signs of something gone wrong...too much 'play' on bushings, excessive fluid on stanchions after fork is compressed, loss of air pressure.

  • About every 3 months, I just pop the wiper seals up and add some Float fluid to the foam rings.
I've got a pair of 2002(I think) Vanillas, and except for a couple of oil changes, that's all I've ever done. They still work fine although I think they are starting to wear a bit now.
I've saved £80 each year by not sending them away for servicing, so in theory I can spend £400+ on some new ones!

I'll be doing the same with my TALAS on my Orange.
