Hi all, started cycling last year at 56 years old after giving up smoking hoping to keep weight gain down, got the bug now looking to do some sportives this year, did my first 60 miler yesterday on my own but would like to meet others from my neck of the woods(North Hampshire nr Basingstoke)to join for regular rides as difficult to get motivated on my own.
Cheers,
Nick :D

well done on getting started, I used to live in those parts and love the cycling over the downs (Whitchurch, Kingsclere, Combe etc).

I can't help with clubs; have you thought about doing a sportive? It's a great way to get motivated and focused. There's the Highclere one in June, I'm doing the 77 mile route and by the sound of things you're up to that sort of distance. If you want a proper challenge / have lots of time to train theres the 126 mile version

    Hi Nick

I'm 5 miles west of Basingstoke. I'll be looking to do a number of early Sunday morning rides over the coming months - generally heading out around Rotherwick, Upper Nately, Herriard, Medtsead, Lasham, Long Sutton way. Plenty of good cycling territory to enjoy. I also know a couple of other fellas who've expressed an interest in coming out. All 40 somethings. Keen we are, Lance Armstrong we aren't.

There's a club in Alton - but I've seen them out & about and I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet...

  • Thanks for replies, am intending to do the 77 mile Highclere sportive plus would like to do a couple of others if possible.
