Hiya there,

Just wondering whether any of you people have completed the C2C route using the odd off-road sections. If so what tyres would you recommend? I would really like to use my schwalbe marathon ones but am mindful that the weather (we're doing it in april), and the off-road sections may conspire against us.

Any advice would be great!

    The Sustrans C2C?

I did it with 4 other riders in '05 in June, it was baking hot 90% of the time & pishing it down the other 10%

I used Panaracer Mach SS semi slick tyres (just put them back on for training rides) and did all the off road options with no problems, 2 other riders used the same tyres with no problems as well.

The 2 times ive did ive had racing ralphs, did old coach road first time around, depending on fitness/skill its rideable up the left hand side, not met anyone yet whos done hartside off road (without pushing most of it), ive did the road way both times, rookhope offroad is also rideable depending on fitness/skill, this is easier than doing rookhope road then crawleyside bank.

Are there any light slick tyres aroung 2 inches - all I can find are slopestyle tryres that weigh 1kg and road mtb tyres that are 1.5 inches. :?

I will also be doing the c2c in April. :D

    Cool,

So far i've been looking at:

    Conti travel contact
    Schwalbe Marathon Plus
    And some Specialized ones

I've got the schwalbe ones already and on light off-road sections when dry they work really well. However perhaps the contis are a bit more substantial! Good luck with your ride too.
  • as with above - no problems on Mach ss tyres

I use the Mach SS's but have had a few punctures and didn't find them great in the wet when dong the Liverpool to Leeds canal last September - which was more off-road than I imagined !

I'm considering the Conti Traffics: http://wiggle.britishcycling.org.uk/p/British_Cycling/24/Continental_Traffic_Tyre/5300003704/#buyitem
Appear good value at £13.49 each and look just the job but seem a bit heavy at 800grams each.
