Cable tapping on the downtube, any suggestions?

Due to the massive downtube on my Cannondale, the gear cables running down the bottom of it get very close to it. The cable running to the rear brake very nearly touches it. When I go over a bumpy section of road, the vibration in the cable makes it tap against the downtube, which drives me insane... Any suggestions for making it a bit quieter? Things I have already thought of:
1. Changing the cable guide, in the hope that it would lift the cable away from the frame slightly. Unfortunately, Cannondale helpfully made it so that only the cable guide supplied with the frame fits.
2. Putting tape under the cable. This would protect the paint, but I don't think it would help much in making the sound quieter unless I layer on quite a lot, which risks touching the cable and affecting the shifting.
3. Putting a small section of outer on the cable where it comes close to touching (it's only one small point). The outer gets held in place by cable tension.
So far, the best fix seems to be the cable outer. The problem is, it looks bloody stupid, and I'd rather avoid it if possible.

the little rubber bumpers you get with brake lines for doing exaclty what you want perhaps? Ask your lbs for some, they'll normally have them lying about.0
