I was in my local Chavsda today and they do whey protein powders. It's in the bike/car section. Was after inner tubes but they were sold out on both the sizes I wanted.

Gels do work! You might need a few - they only have about 80 cals in each

The Smart gels contain caffeine as well. I don't think the taste is that bad, I use them before events. I will have to look in Asda, thats a very good price for them.

Caffeine costs 3.29 for 100grams, or around 1.5p a go. so if you want to add it to a home made recipe you can, easily (although accurate scales helps )

Personally I find the link above to just create pastes, not gels - which needs a gelling agent. Using pectin, I made very successful versions of Hammer Gel's complete with caffeine and amino acids. see My Gel Recipe which cost 13p a shot.
