Alternate Cable Routing - Switching 10sp to 9sp
Has anyone tried this? Does it work and are there any issues?

I'm thinking of trying to use a 9sp Mtb cassette on a 10sp Ultegra setup for the Alps (in particular for Ventoux on the Etape).
Would a 10sp chain work ok on a 9sp cassette?
thanks

A 10sp chain will happily work on a 9sp cassette.
The CTC article re mix&match http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=3946
says that a 10sp shifter with an old DA mech will move a pitch of 4.36mm, whereas pitch of a 9sp cassette is 4.35mm : looks close enough to me !
Are you thinking of a 30+ tooth MTB cassette ? Then you'll need a MTB rear mech, or a long cage triple one - I can't see an Ultegra short cage double/compact rear mech working, that'll only go upto 28 (Shimano officially say 27 IIRC)0
