Woos, I hope you're not going to be wearing a Wheelers' jersey when people see you cop out
I'm not going any where near Alderly Edge0 -

I did my first few sportives on a Specialized Allez with Sora gearing, stock wheels the lot, except for better tyres.
Assuming it's not a blizzard (or maybe even so !), with your sort of attitude you'll get round and be proud of yourself.
If you end up walking a few sections, alright fair enough, you walked a few sections, but you did the route and you finished, it still counts.
You'll be horrified at the speed that some people go past you and think how rubbish you are, but you'll pass a fair number yourself - there are 1600 riders of all sorts of abilities, fitness and experience, you won't be last/slowest.
Assuming you both have breath, have a chat with anyone you pass or passes you and is going roughly the same speed.
You can ride it as a 102 mile solo ride, or you can make friends with someone you've never met before and ride with them for a couple of miles, then meet someone else for a few more, or even ride most of the way round with a group of strangers and share the experience.
Good luck and enjoy it (at any rate in retrospect, after it's all stopped acheing !)
Cheers for that Andy !!!
I need all the encouragement I can get !0 -

That was a lovely reply Andy. Lastpubrunner - he's right; your attitude is great and that counts so much when things get tough. Hope to catch you on the ride and have a chat.0 -
If you don't fancy Swiss Hill (too wet/too crowded - ever seen the pictures of the pros walking up the Koppenberg because there just isn't room to ride?) but still fancy a cobbled climb then go to the next left turn and then turn left on to Woodbrook Road. That is also cobbled for most of its length, joins Swiss Hill and therefore brings you back on the route, but is slightly easier and a touch wider. Ultimately go with what you feel comfortable attempting. After all you are doing this for enjoyment .0

Alright, I'll lower the tone now.
Why don't we all splash out on some 'jaw dropping new kit' from KiloToGo ?
I'm sure we've all received the email, but if not, here it is
http://www.kilotogo.com/index.php?option=shop
and a steal at only £55.95 long sleeve, £42.95 short sleeve, £58.90 gilet
'Jaw dropping' is right - what are they thinking of....? :shock:0 -
no wonder he's covered his face!0

Woah! Check the jersey! Is he going golfing or something?0
