Very strange. Just went to lockout my forks @ 100mm as I was nipping into town. Jumped off a kerb and felt the forks give. Figured I'd got the exterbal floodgate set quite light so went to wind it in, and it was fully in. Now with the lockout dial, it doesn't matter where it is, I'm getting no lock whatsoever.

Answers ion a postcard...

sounds like you have killed it.

you are not meant to drop off with them locked out. sounds like you have killed it.

I thought that's what the blowoff valve was for? The floodgate wasn't fully on and it was only a wee curb - hardly "dropping off". The kind of landing I've done a million times on all kinds of bikes - suspension or not. There's no oil leaking from the lowers or from around the lockout lever.

Looks like I'll be digging out the manual and having a faff.

Nevermind. I needed a firmer spring installing anyway, so makes sense to get a service done at the same time and the lockout fixed.

  • That happened on mine but they were the air version. The problem was rusted and seized ball bearings under the adjuster cap. LBS put new ball bearings in and re-greased and they were fine. Hopefully it's something repairable and cheap like that. I'd be very surprised if you've killed them by dropping off a kerb!

Might have blown an oil seal. If they are anything like my REBAs the oil in the damping circut may now been in the bottom of the right hand leg. I also ended up with reduced travel, the oil in the bottom doesn't compress. Easier to check on air forks as you can let the air out to see how much travel you've got.

In my case it was a faulty O ring seal, tiny hairline manufacturing fault in the seal was all it needed.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
