Help me decide

Hi Guys I am looking at getting back into mountain biking. I have been reading the stickys above about what hardtail and what full suspension bikes are recommended but i just cant choose i have got my choice down to i think 2 bikes but i am also open for suggestions.
At first i was all set at the decathlon rockrider 6.3 after the good reviews it got on here and the 5 year warranty however before i went into decathlon over lakeside i popped into halfords and they were doing 20% off all carrera bikes including the banshee bringing the price down to £399 instead of £499 or even the Banshee X for £560 which seemed like a good deal.
I am mostly going to be doing a bit of xc and beggining some downhill My budget was orginally £400 but i could be tempted to stretch if its worth it.
So help me out guys!!
