Does anyone know much about these bikes ??
What does the Rocky Mountain ETSX 70 compare with and is it a good bike for around £1750 ?
I am looking for around 5inch travel and do anything bike but not sure if this or the Rocky Mountain Slayer would be better?

Thats a good deal considering it was a lot more. I would test it - a lot find the rear end flexy.0

The ETSX (shorter travel of the two) is aimed at the Marathon XC crowd (think long XC and trail rides with 5" of travel) and the Slayer (SXC?) is aimed at the LIGHT free-ride crowd with 6" travel front and rear and slacker head tube angles. The ETSX will climb better (steeper head tube) , the Slayer will descend better (slacker). What kind of riding do you WANT to do will help determine which bike to select.0

I got a ETSX 50 a month ago with £700 knocked off. It is worth every penny, rides so smooth and climbs tricky stuff better than any hardtail I've had (riding 20 years, this is my 1st FS) I'm finally converted.
The diciding factor was doing both loops of Penmachno with hardly any muscle fatigue whereas on my Trek HT my lower back would be screaming after loop 1 !
The frame paint finish is glorious, carbon swingarm is trick and although the frames were a bit fragile pre 07, the 08 models have extra seatube gussets/bracing so should be fine.
The adjustable rear travel can be switched in 2 secs from 4" to 4.5 or 5" and changes the bike subtley. I think the 4.5" setting works for nearly everything.
Its a serious XC/marathon bike just don't think it's a balls out downhiller.
Oh and it has quite a steep seat angle 73*, i.e doesn't feel like your sitting in a 'chopper' so feels like an old school HT...which I love!
Get it , you won't be dissapointed.0 -

I got an 18" which is just right for me (5'9"), it would be too small for you, not in height but they have a shortish top tube (580mm, the same as my 17" Trek HT), I even had to swap the 90mm stem for my old 100mm to stop the front wheel popping up on steep climbs. It feels 'sorted' now tho'
IMO the 19" would probably be spot on for you as the toptube is 3/4" longer than mine.
Got mine from Winstanleys for £1600, which was great as the frame and Fox RP23 are worth a grand (same frame as the ETSX 70) add to that Mavic wheelset, Float RL's, Oro's, X9 & raceface kit...........Bargain!0 -
Go for it, they are fantastic bikes!!!
I was looking at the ETSX last year, but got a great deal on an Element 70. 4" travel is plenty for the type of terrain that I ride along.
The 5 year warranty that Rocky offer kind of speaks for itself; with regards to the quality of the frame.
Whatever you go for, test ride 1st.
