Thinking of doing this as a starter.

Could be fun and do it for charity.

Glad to see you want to take part in one of the biggest cycling festivals in the UK and certainly the biggest in the NE. Don't leave your entry too late as places are filling up fast and the marketing has only just started for it. Nearly 1100 entries so far for the Sportive rides.
It's going to be a great night of racing on the friday with continental teams coming over to compete against the best of the British riders. The same riders will be competing again on the sunday in the Beaumont Trophy and there are a few surprises lined up for the whole weekend.
If you are going to ride for a charity why not choose one of the nominated charities and you may just have one of their sporting patrons to ride along side :D

    Entered!

Although I'm only doing the short ride due to not being fit enough for the bigger events - I want to treat it as a race and see test myself and if all goes well - push for a bigger ride during the year elsewhere.

I actually spoke to you yesterday via email about Gosforth Cycle Club.

Ive entered into the 62mile ride on the saturday, anyone done this before and just how difficult is it ? I understand its quite hilly - i have to say i HATE hills. I did the Great North Bike Ride last year in 3hrs50 which was 55miles and although not hilly by alot of peoples standards, there were a few and i found them hard. Im no speed merchant by any means and am really only doing it just to prove i can ride that distance. What times would the really really fast riders be looking at finishing that kind of distance in ?

The really fast riders will do the 62ml ride in about 4hrs but it is NOT a race. The idea is to enjoy yourself on the day and if you have to stop off lots of times for refreshments there is no shame in that. There are lots of lovely cafes en route and the scenery is spectacular so just enjoy the day.
some riders took 8 hrs to do the 62ml ride last year but they had a great day out. :D

Thanks for that, i really dont think i will be going flat out around the route, i learnt my lesson doing the Great North Bike Ride. Ive also began to realise i get no enjoyment now out of "head down and going as fast as i can"
