Loose Forks

I have had my Rockshox Recon for just over two years and recently it has developed a bit of play. I can feel the wobble when I lift the front from stationary or going over very small bumps (it feels the same as a loose hub or headset but is definitely the forks).
After reading the Rockshox website, I presume the reason for this is the bushings needing to be replaced. After asking several local bike shops, they all seem to suggest just sending the forks off for a service.
While I'm sure this will get it fixed, I was wondering if anyone has replaced bushings themselves? And if so, are any specialist tools really needed?

You can bodge it with pipe, but it is not easy.
Best to send them off.
To check it is the bushing, apply the front brake with your hand wrapped around the stanchion and seal area. Rock the bike back and forth - can you feel the play?0 -
Yes - I've check the play by doing that and can feel it moving so I'm fairly certain that it is the bushing.
Guess I'll sent them off then.
