Looking to replace the chainset on my scott ransom. it has an FSA moto megaexo on at present which has been average. I am looking to upgrade and lighten but within a reasonable cost which is why I am looking at Raceface evolve xc at around £160 and shimano XT also around £160 as all the shimano prices seem to have gone through the roof. Do mainly "rough" xc i.e not proper downhill but always look for the most difficult trails.
any advice would be great or alternatives, many thanks

Shimano SLX.
They're only about 50 grams heavier than XT and 50.00 squid cheaper and much stiffer than the Evolve XC.
Shimano prices (along with many others) have rocketed recenlty. To give you an example I bought my XT 770 chainset before Xmas for £89.00 the same chainset is now £148.00.
If I were looking for a chainset at the moment I really don' t think I could justify 148.00 on the XT.
On a price performance basis I would have to go for the SLX.
Plus spares are readily available.

SLX +1Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.
