Vibration under braking on front wheel

Just of late, my front brake has developed a vibration whilst braking.

It reverbs right through the handlebars and is rather annoying more than anything else.

I've checked the caliper bolts and they are fine. should i check the rotors?

Anything else which could contribute to this?
TIA!.

Front of the bike, check calliper, rotor, hub bearings for play, quick release tension, headset for play, stem clamp bolts (steerer and handlebars), even fork bushings could give some odd feeling under braking.

    Thanks!

Its pretty much a brand new bike so im guessing maybe something has worked loose...
Will check the rotors and the above - hope i can fix it - its more annoying at the moment lol!

  • Could also be a loose headset if the compression device isn't properly tightened. Stand over your bike, apply the front brake and rock the bike back and forward. If you can feel some play in the fork (i.e. you can feel the steerer moving slightly in the head tube), you need to tighten the headset compression deveice to remove the play.

Headset is pretty tight - can't feel any play in it at all to be honest.

It's only just started happening.... strange as the brakes were just bedding in nicely! :D

  • Are the rotors warped? What sort of vibration is it? High frequency? Slow rumble?

have you been squirting your bike with gt85 or similar, you may of contaminated your discs, it happens to me from time to time a good, dirty wet ride usually cures it

Its a slowish vibration under heavy braking at speed...... i have used GT85 but none near the shockers or the front wheel - may have become contaminated - I'll give it a good run later on today and see if it gets any better.....

What brakes are they? I have some deore 535's and the front judders under breaking due to the back of the pad slipping against the piston (or the piston could be moving ever so slighty).
  • It could also be the shape of the discs. The -6 Juicy brakes had polygon shaped discs and they ave quite a vibration under heavy braking on my hardtail. Thats why Avid changed the rotor shape the next year to the G2 shape...

Rotor warped or slightly bent in an off??

Make sure the front QR isn't loose!
